B for Body
Based on the trend that change and transformation are not only possible but good, Luca Silvestrini's B for Body follows the aspirations and nightmares of a woman's quest for beauty and ultimate happiness. Helped and scrutinized with surgical accuracy by two men, she soon realizes the addictive side of her journey.
Combining intricate movement vocabulary, insightful text and dark humour, B for Body was a finalist at The Place Prize 2006, winning the audience vote. The work forms one of the starting points for Protein's full length production Dear Body.
“Silvestrini's work is both a funny, barbed consideration of the dangerous pursuit of beauty and a brightly polished piece of dance theatre”
Donald Hutera, Time Out
“The only time I have actually found contemporary dance funny - and not just in a post-modern way”
Place Prize judge Brian Eno
“Luca Silvestrini's B for Body is a caustic and comic satire on our obsession with body image... It's bruising choreography is the dance equivalent of gothic horror, and Marie, manhandled beyond endurance, makes a wonderful victim”
